Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I'm originally from Las Vegas and currently preparing to move to Recife, Brazil. It’s a big transition, but I’m excited for the change of pace and lifestyle.
I’ve always been into the ocean and try to dive when I can, but my first experience in Brazil was rough. It wasn’t through a dive shop. We were approached on the beach by someone offering dives, and we took a small boat out to an old wooden platform anchored offshore. The operation seemed casual, but they did give a quick safety orientation — the problem was I don’t speak Portuguese, so I didn’t understand much of it.
The gear looked worn out, and there was no real structure or buddy system once we got in the water. I went through with the dive, but the whole thing felt sketchy. It left me realizing how important it is to be able to communicate clearly and to know what kind of standards to expect when diving abroad.
Looking forward to learning from folks here and contributing as I get more settled in Brazil.
