Hello,

just joined Scuba Board.

I'm a recreational OW divers with only 30 dives (Cuba, Mexico, Ontario). Took a U/W Photography course and bought a Sealife UW cam (small, sturdy, relatively inexpensive).

Very excited b/c I will be diving + snorkeling in Grand Cayman next week (Nov 24 to dec 1).

I was wondering if not having my AOW would prevent me from seeing great stuff in deeper dives. I'm supposedly limited to 60 feet/18 meters vs 100 feet/30 meters for AOW. Is there anything amazing down there that I'll be missing? If so I could always take my AOW in Grand Cayman... If not, I might as well stay at my 60ish feet depth and enjoy the longer dive.

Any advice/suggestions are welcomed.

Your first time out with the charter they will get a feel for your skill level and see how you're doing. If you're dialed in and they are comfortable with your skills, they may take you or some deeper or more advanced dives. I have not been to Cayman personally so cannot comment on those sites, but you'll find most of the really cool stuff (excluding wrecks) is normally in the 30-50 foot range anyway. When you get a chance, I do highly recommend the AOW course. You can usually do your course work online ahead of your trip and then do the check-out dives as part of your vacation. If you need a dive light, dry bag, etc. for your trip be sure to check out our site Scuba diving books and apparel - Have fun!

I dive a lot in Cayman - I don't think it will make a big difference. Diving there is normally very easy - calm, clear water. As mentioned above, the dive master will check your skills.
We dive with Tom Byrnes - Cayman Marine LAb - he would be good to work with.
