Just Got A New OMS BP/W

After a lot of research and comparasion of the various BP/W available for buying, I decided for the OMS SS BP with the deluxe Harness and a 45# lift bungied wing.

Yes, it's allready adjusted and setted for my next sunday dive

I'm not a brand fanatic, I try to choose what's best for me.
In my new rig configuration, I'll have the DR lift bag pocket attachet to the bottom of the BP and also the DR integrated weight system. In the near future I'll get the Halcyon life raft.
I mostly researched OMS, Dive Rite and Halcyon, as my brother has a DR Transpack, I'm not a stranger to their quality and performance.

I usually dive in the ocean and the EPIRB is coming soon.

No, I'm not a tech diver and I only practice recreational diving, but I like to be prepared for the unexpected.

So what made you decide to get the 45# bungeed wing for a single tank? opposed to the other wings that other companies offer?

Ok, I'll bite. This person just got some new gear and appears to be quite pleased with his purchase. Why is it so important for folks to come in an rip his gear instead saying congratulations and leave it at that? I've seen this happen in a lot of threads and I don't understand the attitude.

You're right, the bungied wing can be a problem and that is why I did not buy one when I got my BP/W and yes, you did say congratulations.

Yes, I would say something if you said you were going to get something dangerous. However, if you already bought it, I would keep my oppinions to myself and just say congratulations, unless you asked for oppinions on the gear.

From reading his post, he did not ask for oppinions and he also stated he is only interested in recreational open water diving. Yes, he did say he wants to be prepared. As he dives more and learns more, he'll ask more people more questions and learn even more about gear and what's good and not so good. In the mean time, he can enjoy what he has and upgrade as needed when the time comes.

I'd hope, that if I buy something that could get me in trouble, that you guys would advise me in the right direction.

I knew about the bungie issue and still want to buy it 'cause I believe that it's a good design, The manual inflation BS is all wrong, I can inflate it with no trouble and the effort isn't that much diferent than without the bungies.

I tested this inflation issue before buying the Bladder, the problem is if you give to much tension to the bungies, as setted right now, I can asure you that isn't an issue.

The trapping air by the bungies issue, I believe it isn't that much diferent than a free bladder, you just shift position a bit and get the air to the apropiate dump valve, I'll get back to you on this issue with some feedback as soon as I test the rig in the water.

I like the power deflation feature of the bungies.

After close inspection of the assembled bladder at the shop, I came to the conclusion that the bungies doesn't present a real danger of getting tangled on something, at least the probability is the same as any other gear attached to the BC. (lights, reels, signaling devices, cameras, extra tanks, octo hose, ect)

I chose the 45# bladder 'cause in the future I may want to use double cylinder setup and the bladder will do just fine with with single Cylinder as well.

In the remote case that the bungies represent any kind of danger, I can discard them and use the bladder free, right now I believe that the bungies will keep the bladder neatly compressed away giving me a more streamline profile.

I'm well aware of the bungie issues, I've read them for years in diferent sources, but as you know, now DR is offering a similar design called the "gusset-control cord system", the only diference is that they use a cord, not a bungie, this cord won't compress with the bladder presenting a greater risk of entanglement, I know tha DR won't offer a "risky rig" without making sure it was safe, risking their good name and reputation, not after the long years that OMS has endured the critics of their bungied wing design.
I think that as soon as the patent expire, we'll see more bungied BCs being offered to the diving comunity

All in all, I like my new rig and believe it is not the "wings of death" as some dare to call them, I don't claim to be an expert in diving by any means, I just like to learn and all my choices in gear are very well informed and a good deal of time was spended in research before I spend my cold hard earned cash.

As I use the rig, I'll get to you with some feedback, if my present apreciation is wrong, I'll tell you for sure and make the apropiate corrections if needed.
