My son just turned 18.

He has numerous certifications through SSI. OW, AOW, Nitrox, Rescue Diver and others.

What is the proper procedure to get his certifications upgraded to adult?

Does he need to do anything other than request the change, meaning does he need to take any tests, etc?

He has about 450 dives, so he has a clue about what he does.

Thanks.

If he still has the Junior Open Water Diver cert, and that was issued more than a year ago, SSI requires a Scuba Skills Update to issue the full Open Water Diver card. An Instructor or Assistant Instructor (DiveCon) can do that. It's both conversation (knowledge review) and pool work (skills review).

As to upgrading from a Junior Specialty cert to non-Junior, the standards say that whether or not a skills review is necessary is left to the discrection of a qualified Instructor in that specialty. So it could be as simple as asking an SSI shop for the upgraded card.
