we are going on a cruise to eastern carrib. st martin and st thomas, are there any dive ops/ locations where i can take my jr open water diving son? id like to book with the ship but they have a 12 yr old age limit........yes he is 11 and certified,, ( better boyancy (sp) than me!! ) thank you for any insite you all may have.

St Maarten isn't widely thought of as a good dive location. However, St. Thomas has some really good diving. Try contacting Blue Island Divers and/or Admiralty. Both boats pick up directly in front of the cruise ship at the dock and are highly recommended. We dove with Blue Island and thought highly of them.

An alternate would be Coki Beach on St. Thomas. About a 20-30 min. ride from the cruise port. Some of the cruiselines use them. Not a great dive though, I'd try to work something out with Blue Island first. http://www.cokidive.com/cruise_pax.htm

Have to give props to Chris Sawyer dive center. They are in the Red Hook section of St Thomas which I think is probably about 30 mins or so from where the cruise ships dock. Their web site has a section on cruise ships. http://sawyerdive.vi The diving around St Thomas is all pretty shallow which would good for jr diver.
