Could anyone give me some advice on how to go about making a jon line for wreck diving.

I use the OMS Anchor Line Deco Hook A492 http://www.omsdive.com/hardware.html (Looks like a big hairpin) and 8-12 feet of one inch webbing with loops on either end.
One end attaches to the Deco hook and the other has a snap you can clip to your harness.
I like the Master clip from Innovative scuba as it can be unclipped even under load

Carry a spool (not a reel) for the task since a spool is a multi-purpose tool and can be used for other applications if need be.

Go to Petsmart,they have a large selection of leashes.get one 6' with a brass dog-snap on it .They come in colors even.
