I just don't log dives
Hello: I have recently acquired an old Jmar dive compressor and have now got the little honda engine tuned up and running nicely. I've changed compressor oil and filter and fired it up but cannot see how to engage the compressor. The belt is loose and the compressor wants to go but I'm expecting to see a lever to engage the belt. I see nothing.

What am I missing? Centrifugal engagement maybe and the belt is just too loose?

Thanks

I think Jmar is the old name for jordair compressors in vancouver. They build compressor systems using Bauer blocks. I have never seen one rigged up with a lever to engage the belt. Is the motor mounted on a hinge plate? Post some pictures so we can figure it out.

it should engage right away after 1000 rpm on a centurial clutch .

Go on the Bauer website and download the version of the manual that best matches your block from the web site below.

The loose belts usually can be one of two things, three actually.
You haven’t got correct belt tension or the belt and or driver pulley is wrong size
It is also possible as a Jmar built Bauer that a belt tensioning idler was originally fitted, a small wheel mounted centre of the belt on the frame to effect belt tension without having to jack out the motor or engine. Hard to tell without photo of the model but if you have the bolt holes in the frame and nothing in them that would be the clue.

Cant think it being a centrifugal clutch you mostly only fit them with big diesel driven compressors 30-40 BHP and as you fitted a Honda its unlikely to be bigger than 10 HP. Again

Hey thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. It looks to be hinged. I never noticed the springs down in there before.
I got her going now
