I'm thinking of putting drainage holes into my Jet fins. The problem is that I take off my fins and put them on my arms so I can climb up the boat/dock ladder. Usually the foot pockets fill up with water and I end up lifting a few more pounds than I have to. I've compensated for this by tipping the fins to dump the water, but it's quite awkward to do - especially with the boat tipping in the swells.

I was going to heat up a nail and use it to punch holes three holes in each foot pocket, but I heard from a technically oriented diver that this was not recommended. I never found out the specific reasons. Any reason why I shouldn't make this modification?

Yes. Beach dives. You are carrying a very small amount of extra weight. If this is an issue, I'd suggest weight training at the gym. On beach dives, I make sure my fins are full when I leave the water. After walking across the sand to my car, I kick off excess sand from my boots, then I rinse the rest of the sand off with water from my fin pockets.

BTW, a search will produce this same discussion several times.

I used a drill to put two drain holes in mine. I placed them near the ball of the foot, similar to where Mares places theirs. Never had a problem.

Was the instruction to fill your fin pockets with water to wash off sand after walking up the beach.

I am thinking of plugging the drain holes on my Quatros so they will hold water.

Damn, I guess I really am an old f**t.

Conversely, I am thinking of punching out the drain holes in my Quattros so that they don't vacuum seal to my dry suit boots. Decisions, decisions...

i find the anti-suction holes on my jets are essential. i actually separated the spring on one of my spring straps by yanking on them too hard when i didn't have the holes in the fins.

Why fix problems that arent there---- Learn to dump the water out of the fins----Dont be such a wuss-----Is what my old man would say...
