Journalist dies during diving test | The Jakarta Post
JAKARTA: Ahmad Sakir, 29, a reporter with private television station Trans 7, died from an asthma attack during a scuba diving test in Thousand Islands regency on Saturday, according to doctors.

Trans 7 news division head Titin Rosmasari said that Ahmad was preparing for his final diving test with a colleague from the production division after they passed a pool session test and a theory class.

“Before the session, he complained that he was in pain and needed some medications,” she said as quoted by kompas.com.

Ahmad, a Trans 7 reporter since 2007, is survived by his wife and 4-year-old twin sons. — JP

Any diving death is a tragedy and I feel nothing but great sympathy for his wife and their twin sons. What doctor approved him for diving with asthma?

What doctor approved him for diving with asthma?

Good question.

Does anyone know if this was an Open water SCUBA class or a Discover Scuba Diving event?

Does anyone know if a SCUBA shop was involved or if any particular agency was involved?

First: My condolences to his family and friends

Second: Not to hijack the thread;

There are different types of Asthma, I consulted DAN many years ago about my then fifteen year old son being able to dive with asthma, I was directed to a commercial Dive Physician that did a work up on my son and actually gave him a prescription for SCUBA lessons.

My point is don't assume that asthma is the cause or that the diver was negligent in seeking proper medical advise prior to his SCUBA diving activities.

Once again my condolences to his family and friends, sorry for your loss
