The article says that the day-to-day operations will not change, but I wonder if guests will still be able to earn and use Starwood Preferred Guest points under the new ownership?

The management or brand has not changed. The new ownership will have little or no impact on the day to day operation of the hotels except for the probable infusion of cash for room reno. Same as when it changed ownership a couple of years ago.

I agree - not sure why the fact that the owners are Japanese makes any difference from the nationality of all the other owners of the facilities...
