Body of missing Japanese diver found in Kenting waters | Society | FOCUS TAIWAN - CNA ENGLISH NEWS
Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) The body of a Japanese national who went diving in Kenting, one of Taiwan's most popular beach resorts, was found Thursday after being reported missing in waters off Houbihu, Pingtung County's Bureau of Fire and Emergency Services said that day.

According to the bureau, it received report of a missing diver at 1:23 p.m. Thursday and rescue teams found the man submerged 30 meters from the shoreline nearly one hour later.

The victim, in his 40s, had no vital signs when he was pulled from the water, the bureau said.

Tsai Yung-chun (蔡永春), a diving instructor based in Kenting, said waters around the Hengchun Peninsula have been pretty choppy in recent days due to rough weather, and many local diving schools have temporarily suspended classes as a result.

The cause of the man's death is currently being investigated.
