Its slightly less than 3cuft of air...so its more like a smaller more compact Spare Air. Still, its much closer to Bond's Thunderball rebreather....very nice.

Fastmarc:
55-60 mins at what depth?
I didn't see a depth spec on that time estimate but wouldn't be too surprised if it's 60 minutes for just holding your head underwater. I could be wrong though, I guess one would have to get more detailed information to really assess it; the article states that it has been catching interest from the emregency crews so it might be more for emergency spare air rather than something for a weekend of wreck dives at Wreck Alley in San Diego :coffee:

The helicopter crews where I used to work carried a small pony bottle with about 10 minutes air at about 5 metres depth. I think it was called an "Underwater Escape Device" - used if the helo crashed in the sea to give them breathing time to escape.

I know that in a recertification test, one of the crew (an ex Navy diver) got out of the simulated accident and then spent about 30 minutes on the bottom of the pool, quite happily breathing off this thing. Think he might have been showing off just a little...

I think that this would have a similar use.

Looks like it's designed primarily for hypoxic environments.
