Hi
Am planning a trip to Madang September this year. Thinking of staying at Jais Aben and using their dive company.
What have peoples experience being of Madang and the dive company? Is Madang a good site to dive? I've read differing views on both the Island and the dive company
Also, is September a good month to visit PNG?
Thanks in advance

Hello kiwi, I thought Madang diving was excellent from my one trip in that area. The wrecks are great-planes and ships-fish life was great too. A few years ago, a new species of nocturnal bamboo shark was discovered in Madang harbour-finding a new fish over 1m long doesn't happen very often these days. I would try to get out to the volcanic islands off shore and any inshore sites north of Madang for more big stuff. I saw dolphins several times, very close to shore in front of the Chinese restaurant in the southern part of the town, more good siqns.

As fo JA resort, it looked nice from the pix I saw, but it is pretty far from town and I heard on 2 seperate occaisions that they had closed down unexpectedly, don't know what the deal was. I did notice that all of the divers on their boats were Japanese, so maybe a Japanese scuba site would have the most up to date info/feedback. I was there on the Golden Dawn liveaboard, not land based for my diving and only was in town for a few days... -Andy
