Downers Grove-Based Nonprofit Diveheart Wins AABE Award
(Naperville, IL)—March 28, 2019—The Daily Herald Business Ledger’s 29th Annual Award for Business Excellence recognized the Downers Grove-based Diveheart in the Not-for-Profit Organization category as a 2019 Honoree. The event, held at Northern Illinois University’s (NIU) Naperville Campus, gives these awards in recognition of business achievement, growth and community involvement. Diveheart was among 22 companies and business organizations and nonprofits selected as nominees.

“Diveheart has helped shape the future of scuba therapy for people, not just with disabilities, but all abilities, and it is an honor to be recognized by such an esteemed body of our peers in business,” Jim Elliott, Diveheart’s founder and president. “Diveheart believes in the power of partnership and our scuba therapy programs reflect that value and this award for business excellence underscores that idea.”

Tinamarie Hernandez, Diveheart’s executive director, added that she is proud of the publication’s recognition of the valuable work and service it does.

“Diveheart is driven by our statement to ‘Imagine the Possibilities,’” she said. “It’s an honor to be recognized for the work we do. Awards like this one helps reinforce to us and others that it is work worth doing.”

Founded in 2001, Diveheart provides educational scuba therapy programs open to any child, adult or veteran with a disability. Through these programs, participants develop confidence and inner strength.

Every year the Daily Herald Business Ledger awards businesses in the suburban Chicagoland area. Individuals, businesses and organizations submitted their nominations in different categories: Small Company (up to 50 Employees), Medium Companies (51-150 Employees), Large Companies (over 150 employees), Business Organization and Economic Development Entity, Architecture and Construction, Educational Institution, Entity or Program, Entertainment/Hospitality Company, Manufacturing, Minority-Owned Business, Innovation in Business, Family Business, Retail, Trade Association/Professional Society and Non-for-Profit. The publication’s editorial staff conducts the judging and selects the companies to receive the honors.
