Issues with Suunto Vypers

I recently replaced batteries on two Suunto Vypers (my nephew's) and now the two little snakes refuse to dive.

The batteries have been replaced twice! I had to make sure voltages were good, they sat without batteries for at least 30 minutes (in an attempt to reset them, after they refused to dive the first time).

I can see all the menus and set preferences, they get to dive mode and when in the water (at least 10 ft) they just do….nothing….

Any insight or tricks to make the nasty little reptiles get back to work would be appreciated.

Hi Celia,
when the device is in time mode and you submerge it (depth doesn't matter) does it show "AC"?

Celia: Excuse me for the dumb question: are you sure you used the correct battery CR2450 and insert the batteries with the "+" terminal looking to you while you were closing the hatches back?

Celia: Reading more carefully your post I can see that you were able to scroll through the menus. This indicates that the polarity is the correct one. Assuming that you also used the proper battery, I can tell you that after replacing the battery in several hundred computers, I remember once a similar case with a Vyper. It turned out that the pressure sensor just died through the process of replacing the battery (which points to a faulty electronic design). I also believe that somebody has reported a similar experience with a Vyper in this same forum. A dead pressure sensor is consistent with a computer not going into the dive mode when submerged in water. But what seems very strange to me is that two pressure sensors on different computers decide to die on the same day. What happens when you just dunk your computer in water in a cooking pan? The AC (activated contacts) letters must come on, as hendrick@suunto also pointed out.
