Hi folks

As we near our adventure to Isla Mujeres I am wondering about airport transfers. From Ixchel Beach Hotel they offer a greeter and an ac'ed car/van at the Cancun airport, transport to the ferry, ferry tickets, ? Transport to the hotel is unclear? Do we walk with our luggage or will they have a golf cart? Neither my wife or I are typically fat under exercised Americans, we are tough and don't mind hauling gear but a smooth arrival would be a nice touch. We understand that the reverse is included in the $150 cost. Is this a ripoff and if so, what options do you suggest? Mike?

I also am staying at Ixchel Beach Hotel. I have been recommended to use USA transfers from the Airport to the ferry. We are going with a bigger a bigger group, so we need to get a van. Their website says the price for round trip between the airport and the ferry is $75 ($45) one way. I haven't used them yet, but will give them a try.

When we visited in January of 2014 our trip played out as follows:

We used CARM for transportation between the Cancun Airport and the ferry. Cancun and Riviera Maya Tours and Transporation by CARM
They were recommended by the B&B we stayed at - we had no issues with them what so ever.

We purchased our ferry tickets (go ahead and purchase round trip tickets)

Once on Isla, we took a taxi to our B&B (for you - your resort), we found the taxi's to be much less expensive than expected.

If I had it to do over, I would not have rented a golf cart but would have taken a taxi everywhere. (That being said it was just my wife and I) Unless you want to do a whole island tour - than get a cart for a day.

Even though I have not used USA Tours - I have not hear anything bad about them so I would not hesitate to use them in the future. We used our B&B's recommendation when we went and all went well.

When we travel to Isla, we are a couple and not a group so we just grab a taxi at the airport and zoom to the ferry. About $50 US if I recall correctly. There are buses and vans that will be cheaper as you will be waiting for others and loading you all up and maybe even making stops along the way. A cab from the airport is the fastest, easiest and most expensive option, we usually opt for this option as it's no fun standing in the long lines at the curb for 30 minutes as they fill up vans and then take an hour to get to the ferry instead of less than 30 minutes. Pre-arranged transportation should be somewhere in the middle hassle wise as they should only be waiting for the passengers who are already booked on it.

When we get to the island we stay at the Ixchel so we either just grab a cab and zip up to the hotel, or sometimes we get one of the bike porters who are at the pier and they take the bags on their bike thing and we stroll up the road along the beach front to Ixchel which is about a 10 minute walk.

I don't know how you would have a golf cart unless this was prearranged somehow as part of the process. I probably wouldn't rent one on my own from the pier as that's probably a lot of hassle after a day of traveling and the cab or the nice walk is just too simple.
