I can't imagine why the standard port PPE-05 wouldn't work since the 14-42 works fine with it.

Hi Gary,

The first problem would be that the 25 mm is about a third the length of the 14 to 42 which places way back in the dome port and it may well vignette. The second problem is that minimum focus distance is less than seven inches above F/8 or so, putting the port glass much closer to the subject that if you had a custom port. The zoom port may work, but not to the full extend a custom port would.

What would be cool would be a very small dome port which would retain the full angle of view of the lens (and the depth of field) while letting you put as much distance between the port and subject as the design would allow.

Phil,
Yes but if you already own a standard port or dome it couldn't hurt to field test it before purchasing another port. I was happy with the 50mm behind the standard port on the sage advice of a guy named Phil.

cheers,

Hi Gary,

If you already own the 170 mm Olympus/Athena dome the 25 mm lens will work and minimum focus distance would be about 76 mm ( 3 inches) from the dome glass.

With the Athena dome and the Olympus PPO-E05 port you would be about 50 mm two inches from the dome glass at minimum focus distance.

I think with a custom dome port that has glass the size of the Athena port but much shorter you could have a subject to glass distance more like 150 mm (six inches).

You are correct to say that you could make due with what you have got, but not nearly as well as using the 50 macro or the 35 macro in the 14 to 42 mm ports.

I never did get a chance to shoot the 25mm in the 50mm port. I spent so much time on the things Cathy and I worked on, as well as technical stuff with the camera/lens/flash combo.

Here are a few if you did not see them:

Now I have to work on cleaning them up. I hoped the the new Elements would be out soon, but will use Studio Master until then.

Is there any way of getting Ikelite ports to fit Olympus E-series housings?
I'm looking for a budget dome solution for the 9-18 or 12-60...

Very nice pics ConchyJoe!
Looks like you found the pleasures of shooting in manual mode,180s and centerweight average metering mode :-)
