Never been on an Indo liveaboard that didn't have cold Bintangs. ;)

HD is right, I believe Bintangs are required by law to be aboard all LOBs plying Indonesian waters with divers (or even just tourists) aboard.

There is a fairly big shopping center down the road a couple km from the airport on the same side. We stocked up on extra cases there (only saw Heinken and Bintang), not sure about other spirits but it was a good sized grocery store. If you are overnighting in Sorong would be simple to make a supply run. // ww

Finding beer in Sorong should not be too hard, but wine and spirits will be a different story. FWIW, wine is pretty much prohibitively expensive in Indonesia. Unless you have a connection to acquire wine through sketchy means, buying wine at a retail store is crazy. A bottle of crappy Jacobs Creek that would cost $5 in the US will run you $30+ bucks here. A liter of Smirnoff or Bacardi could be as high as $40. This is contingent on finding it in a store. In Jakarta and Bali it won't be a problem, but availability goes down hill quick in remote areas. Luckily I have a booze dealer (Correct, not unlike a coke or weed dealer. This is a strange world.) to keep me sane. :)

If you like anything better and stronger than Bintang (average beer at best) buy a bottle of duty free booze before you arrive in Indonesia- you are allowed one per person.

Thanks Guys,
We have an overnight in Sorong, so should have time to get to that store you mentioned Warmwater Wank.
I guess I'll be switching from wine to Vodka and tonics then .. Unless you fancy doing some side 'dealing' matts1w?:cool2: Hubby will be happy that he can pick up some beers.
Sorted.

I was on a Komodo liveaboard last November where due to the large amount of drinking by a segment of the divers they had to restock Bintangs TWICE on the trip.
That was a first time for the boat to have to restock, and I was happy that I could still have a beer or two in the evening the remainder of the trip.
