Salutations!

I'm putting together a two week Cozumel trip for my girlfriend and I in early to mid-August. Any strong options as to whether or not this is a good idea given the start of the hurricane season?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Been lurking on this forum for a while and appreciate everyone's thoughts, comments, opinions and support.

Actually, hurricane season starts around June. Now, to answer your question, ANY time is a good time to go to Coz. August is going to be a little on the hot side, but it's manageable. I was there in August of last year, and loved every minute of it.

You are sort of rolling the dice if you ask me. that area got hammered last year by a hurricane. Go for it though

Yes, but Wilma hit in October.

While it is true that to go anywhere near the Atlantic/Gulf/Caribbean coast north of northern South America and south of New Jersey in the months between June and November is a roll of the dice, the odds are very much in your favor.

Sold! Thanks to everyone for your input. Much appreciated.

Now then, anybody else going? (8/5-8/19)

Full Disclosure: My girlfriend and I will be newly certed divers with as many "first dives" as we can muster in Boston before getting on a plane. So for all you old hands out there, if you're going to be there, we'd love to meet you, but we won't take it personally if you don't want newbies on your dives.

me and my dad will be there august 3-10...a little nervous about hurricances but we are just staying positive and going to enjoy every minute of it!

I was there last July just a few days after Emily and it was fine; a little beat up in town, a little murky on some of the dive sites, but basically fine. That was just a couple of days after a major hurricane. Historically, Cozumel has been pretty lucky with regards to getting hit square in the chops by big storms; until last year, that is!

One thing about Coz in the summer is that it's REALLY humid once you get just a little off shore. So, any trips to the ruins on the mainland could be pretty brutal, and they're really worth seeing. That's the only reservaton I"d have about going during the summer, but maybe you could use that as an excuse to return in the winter. Be careful, Cozumel is pretty addictive.

ITS FREEKING HOT HOT HOT HOT!

make sure you drink plenty of water prior to your arrival to keep your body hydrated .

We went 1st week of august 05 after emily definatly noticed more sand on the reefs in august then in march - Viz wasnt as good as it was in March.

Anyday regardless of the conditions , coz is better then being HOME IN THE COLD..BRRR...
