Hello Scuba Board Members in SE Florida,
As you may know, the health of SE Florida's coral reefs have been challenged by significant outbreaks of coral bleaching and diseases since 2014. As part of the response, the FDEP Coral Program has been conducting several BLEACHWATCH training classes aimed at helping divers and snorkelers to properly observe and report signs of coral bleaching and diseases to the state's www.SEAFAN.net monitoring system with dedicated tools and resources.
Friends of Our Florida Reefs (www.floridareef.org) is the official nonprofit Friends group for the FDEP Coral Program, and we're helping the Sate's agency to host an enhance BLEACHWATCH program in summer 2018, including several large FREE introductory classes, and also intimate workshops where advanced divers can become certified BleachWatch instructors to help spread the education and reporting tools in 2019 and beyond.
Our first introductory BLEACHWATCH training class starts on June 11, 6-9pm in Palm Beach County with at least 3 more intro evening classes in Broward (June 20 & 27) and Miami-Dade (July 12). Intro Classes are free and open to the public and we have ample space at most locations. While walk-ins are OK, registration is highly desired so we can ensure enough class materials and refreshments.
Full details can be found at the Friends of Our Florida Reefs website: BleachWatch Trainings
and/or our Facebook page: Friends of Our Florida Reefs
Thanks for reading and the consideration. Hope to see you at a BleachWatch Training Class this summer in SE FL!
Sincerely,
