A new movie I rented this weekend, "Into the Blue", while it won't earn anyone any awards, had some awesome diving scenes, with, let's just say it, some people that looked pretty nice under water. I especially enjoyed the free dive scenes, which were truely exaggerated and crazy, but, hey, fantacy + diving = WOW, you gotta see this.

Interested in the opinions of other divers.;)

Paul Walker was a very good diver also.

You do know that they were using doubles for the extended [free] dive scenes? With the mask on, they really didn't need Jessica for the long shots (especially the early part of the movie).

I thought the movie was very good. We have Netflix, so it was one of the movies on our list. I liked Paul Walker...my husband liked Jessica Alba. (We may be happily married, but we're not blind or dead, okay!) We're both divers...so that interested us. Also, if you watch the making or bonus features, they interview Paul and Jessica. Both of them have diving backgrounds. They made the movie in the Bahamas...which I'm glad to see...cause we're going there for a week in June! I thought it was worth renting...maybe even buying on DVD at some point...maybe when it hits the bargain or discount bins in a few months.

I think it was an interesting attempt to capture diving visually. I've on seen it once at the theater back when it was showing, simply because my LDS was doing promotion along with the movie.. I remember the movie using some fast motion to speed up underwater movements (I think) and, well, there's always sharks and people running out of air. It's all very fake, but I think these elements are needed to keep the visual tempo going. It's a movie, not a documentary.

A real dive experience won't work well on screen because it's slow and chill out. Good for some scenes, but there's very little speed.

The treasure hunt idea actually made sense because it's also impossible to make a movie about people who just dive for the heck of seein' things.. (which is what real divers do ya?)

the biggest mystery of them all was... why the heck did PADI endourse it? It was full of diving boo boos. Well, better than nothing right?

It is probably one of the most visually stimulating diving film ever and can clearly see why PADI would endorse it!! Just think, to anyone that has never dived before this will get them interested so it doesnt matter if there was a few "boo boos"!! Much better than 'The Cave'!!!!

Or how to kill a thread lesson 1:D

I loved the ocean shots. It definitley got me pumped for diving. But for a good story to sit down and forget about life in, Into the Blue was definitely useless.
