Hey there,

I am going to Anthony's Key in May and need to know the best way to keep "connected". I know it is a vacation, but I am the only IT guy for my company and I will need to be accessible in an emergency. And of cource FB for the wife to post pics!

What is the best option for internet access on the island? AKR offers $10 for a 2 hour increment. I have heard that Tigo is like $25/week. I would like to get access in my room, or at least at the resort rather than in town at an internet cafe. Does anyone know if they have something that works cell phones, so I can tether via wifi to multiple devices?

If anyone can guide me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jeff

AKR also has a weekly package, atleast they did when we were there. (I think $25.00) They do not have wireless in the rooms but do so in the office area and also have two desk tops available. You will see them when they give you the welcome talk. The internet was reasonably fast as I recall. Just don't use the phone in the "Loby area". We called our son on his birthday for about 4 minutes and it cost us about $45.00! From what I was told you can also get cell phone service on the island very cheap. The spot that we stayed our second week gave guests a cell phone to use for the week because they are so reasonably priced.

AKR has wireless internet on the key that works in the rooms but isn't really fast. It probably varies depending on which room you're in.

It's pretty fast in the lobby area and may work on the hill rooms.

The cost is $25/wk or $15 for 3 days.

If you have a un.ocked dongle it is very easy to get a 3g connection for the week. I use a sierra wireless which i bought unlocked from ebay. As long as it is NOT LOCKED to a service provider you can stick a tigo sim in there and have a week of internet for $10. If you need help with it when you get to the island call me on 94846663 and i can sort you out.
