This year a Special Caring Award Medal was created to honor the memory of 8 year old Darl Christin Harlan Desamero. Darl won an award in the 2007 contest for her poster depicting two sharks circling a heart. This third-grader, a student at Immaculate Heart of Mary College in Quezon City, Philippines, died before news reached her that she had won. The Caring Medal was awarded to DarlÃÔ 12 year-old brother Dheil Christian H. Desamero. He attends the Ramon Magsaysay High School Espana in Samplac, Manilla, Philippines.
