A few weeks ago I finished my dive with quite a bit of air leftover in my [rental] tank. Since my hire gear wasn't due to be returned until the next day I had some extra time to 'play' with it so I decided to practice in my pool. When I refer to my pool, I mean the communal pool that is available to all residents in the apartment complex I live in.
So here I lug the equipment to the deep end of the pool and spend 10 minutes kitting up while the other pool users watch in eager anticipation waiting to see what happens.
I decide to practice the entry techniques. First, giant stride, not happy, out of the pool and try again, okay that was perfect, one more time just to be sure. Next I try the back roll a few times ... whew, getting in and out of the pool is turning out to be quite a work out in itself.
So I decided to spend a few minutes chilling out and practicing buoyancy control, fin pivots and the elusive hover. It's certainly a lot harder to hover in a 2m pool than in 3m of ocean.
At this point the other pool users have lost interest and completely forgotten about me. I know this because, there was this couple who, ehem, started being liberal with each other's hands under water. I'm sure at the surface it would seem to everyone that they're just a nice couple having a quite conversation and a few laughs as they waded in the shallow end of the pool. But to the SCUBA diver below, with 25m visibility ... well :05:
When I realised what was happening, I had a quiet chuckle and then went back to mind my own business and practiced a variety of skills, particularly removing the mask and replacing and then clearing, except each time I cleared it, the visibilty returned and I can see again and ... oh don't look there man, they're still at it!
Needless to say, I found it rather hard to concentrate, I eventually had to do the rest of my skills practice facing the nearest wall.
Any of you have interesting pool stories?
I meant the SCUBA variety, not the hot tub variety :14:
