Now, this is a first for me.
Do divers really dive like this?? :11:

Yeah... it's called sidemount.

I don't know much about it, but I understand it's good for squeezing through narrow overheads while cave diving.

Mostly guys like Curt Bowen and Duncan Price dive this way.

Sidemount is great for squeezing through very tight places and it is also good for packing gear into remote dive sites.

There have been a number of articles on sidemount in Advanced Diver Magazine (ADM).

Yes. It's sidemounted tanks on a harness. The tanks aren't really loose like it looks. It's a configuration used by people who think like cats.... (anywhere the head fits the rest will fit.....)

R..

Besides having some advantages in transport, many caves have areas that are low wide bedding planes which are open spaces between horizontal layers of rock. A sidemount configuration reduces the divers vertical profile. It also makes it easy to remove a tank to fit through smaller areas.

Ya, I dive like that. Its me in the photo ....

There you have it!

Nice work on the armadillo page Curt, and thanks for being a part of the community. Keep up the great work at ADM.

Even with just the back of your head in that PIC, I could tell it was you. Great shot! Good link.
