Hi-

Can anyone recommend a rebreather instructor on Oahu? I will be there for two months in March and April. I could also leave Oahu for a week or two and go to the Big Island, Kauai, or Maui, but Oahu would be preferred to keep costs down.

Thanks for your help!

a lot depends on the type of rebreather....i know ocean legends used to teach one or two types.

I am still researching units, but it seems like you have to train with whatever the instructor teaches because there are so few instructors.

I would pick a unit that suits what you want. With rebreathers your gonna spend a good amount on money on a unit and training I think it would be silly to try to save money by limiting anything about what your trying to do. Look into instructors not in Hawaii and try to figure out a way to get them to hawaii for a class...or go to them. Your gonna be spending close to 10k for even the cheapest rebreather and 1-2k for the first level of training, do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again.

Darren Fox at Ocean Legends in Honolulu trains on the Titan CCR. I think Ocean Concepts trains on the Inspiration and maybe Island Divers in Hawaii Kai does as well.

Yeah and then having tubs of sofnolime, cleaning gear, maintaining gear, having tanks.. O2 fills (Its EXPENSIVE!!) just remember its not something you do to save money thats for sure. Then if you want backup computers, any modifications that you may do..
