Firstly, I'd like to recognise Tridacna for his original post
Here is a step by step installation of 70mm x 6mm 316ss rings on my Hydros Pro which replaced the D-rings on the 1" shoulder webbing.
General comments:
1. To minimise 'kinking' of the monoprene strap, don't use a ring thicker than 6mm. I used 6mm, but would use 4mm next time.
2. Take photos of the original D-ring configuration and only disassemble 1 strap at a time
Tools:
2 rings: 70mm OD. 6mm gauge 316 stainless steel. (bought on Amazon)
Small Allen key to poke out the webbing retainer pin
Pliers to pull the webbing retainer pin and thread the webbing back through
Plastic clip to hold back the monoprene during the installation
Small flat blade screwdriver to push the webbing back into the backing plate
Procedure (see photos):
1. Remove inflator hose from the shoulder strap bungee to keep it out of the way.
2. Gently poke or tap the retaining pin just far enough so the webbing can be removed
3. Clamp the webbing so the monoprene doesn't hinder the ring installation
4. Remove the D-ring and hold the new ring in place
5. Using the screwdriver to GENTLY poke the thread through the backing plate, then use the pliers to pull it through
6. Push the retainer pin back in. I used the side of the pliers for this.
