Hiya!

I spoke to a couple of instructors/tech-divers, and have been told that the Halcyon range of BP and wings are real comfortable, and that quality is top-notch. I was actually contemplating Oxycheq, but this brand, (from what I heard), is still relatively new from where I come from (Singapore)...

Before heading back home in June (for good), i was thinking of getting a rig, but can't decide on which brand. Any idea guys?

Thanks!

"The big H" is comfy-quality, so are DSS and others.

Most important is what is most comfortable for you (there are subtle, or not so, differences) so you should, if possible, try before you buy.

The halcyon wing is a very nice system but it has a luxury price tag. You can get a wing that is as good or better for much less money. I have lots of customers who dive diverite, OMS, and Agir and have had good luck with all of them. Out of all of them I like the diverite and agir the best.

Quality of the Halcyon is definitely top notch, but so is the quality of Oxycheq and others. I really don't think you would be dissapointed with either. Do you know which of the major brands you can get local support for? That might make a difference in your decision.

Are you buying a single tank or doubles rig? Which wings and plates are you choosing between?

I am partial to the OMS IQ Pack. It is extremely comfortable and customizable. Bottom line is to check out as many as possible to find your comfort, in the water if you can, at worst in your wetsuit/drysuit with a tank mounted in the store. A BP will feel a lot different than a standard BC the first time you put it on. In the water it becomes one with you.

Hi nivla80,

Since you are around my neck of the woods, you are welcome to try on a Halcyon and my buddy's Oxycheq and you can make up your own mind. personally, for the price and the quality I would go for Oxycheq anyday.

Cheers,

SangP

Floater, I'm prolly just gonna use it for a single rig. Not moving into doubles in the forseeable future... Choosing between Oxycheq and Halcyon for both wings and BP. Looking at a hog harness with a AL BP, with weight pockets..

SangP, PM sent!

I was always hoping to get a Halcyon wing, never thought about other brands at that time for some reasons (probably brand name is closely tied to tech dive ads and other factors), but I ended up getting an Oxycheq. I think one of the reason was related to the power inflator recall, I checked around with others about the issue (what happened, how did they deal with the issue, how did Halcyon react to the issue etc), although the conclusion was clear that the new Halcyon wings were error free, but somehow I just switched from the original decision.

Today, I'd say, a lot of wings out there are already pretty good. The only thing I'll do is ask around about the next product I've in mind, make sure that there is no negative feedback from the users or any kind of recall. So, more research on the specific product interested rather than just relying on the brand name.

My attitude towards brand names, at least for scuba equip, has changed, mainly due to the feedback and opinions around, even for the same brand name, different products made by the same manufacturer can mean different qualities, e.g. regulators, BC, etc.
