Hello all

I have an Canon A640 in an Ikelite housing and I would like to improve the macro shots I am getting with this setup. basically coming from a Nikonos background I would like to get 1:2 or even 1:1 macro out of this setup. Now I know it can do this already but the problem is the subject get very close to the housing port or you have to Zoom to tele setting and get too much water between you and the subject.

I assume that the Inon macro lens would increase the fous distance when the camera is set to WA in Macro mode but not so much as to make it too far. Also i assume it would increase the magnification.

Am I on the right track here??

Keery,

I have the Canon A620 and dont have a clue as to how to use the macro.... any suggestions?

Guys...the Canon cameras have a macro "function" which allows you to focus from a shorter (nearer the object) distance from your subject. Inon also sells macro lenses. I use these macro lenses on my S-70 with canon housing, Inon wet lens mount, ultralight plate and arms and an Inon Z240 strobe. The macro lense is basically a magnifier if you will. It also makes your DOF very, very shallow. It works well, but you need to practice, practice to make sure your focus is actually sharpest where you want it to be....just my 2 cents

I did a lot of Nikonos macro for years so shallow depth of field does not scare me. What I want is more magnification but not 1" in front of the lens which is what happens now. So I am interested in the lens.

Pretty straight forward, set the camer in macro mode and zoomed in to the wide angle lens position the camera will focus pretty much right in front of the lens, in fact underwater if you are not careful it will focus on dirt on the housing port. At the telephoto position it will focus about a foot or so in front of the lens (manual has the exact distances but I don't have it in front of me)

Works well

If I recall from my old Inon macro lens + P&S setup, it's the opposite... Will reduce the focus distance. someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm using one on my A95 and using the zoom isn't really a good idea. Set on minium focus, increase your ASA rating to get better DOF and just move camera in or out to obtain focus.

Another point about the UCL.
Depending on your housing you may get a black background around the edges of the frame with the subject in a circle in the middle. You need to either zoom in for the subject to fill the frame, which is not a good idea or do some post dive editing on the photos to crop the edges.
I have the Canon S70 which is 28 mm and have to zoom in to about 45-50 mm to make the black edge disappear.

Yup, that's what I do with my G7 except I've used two macros stacked. I have to zoom in quite a bit and you need a flash in order to get the aperture down and the shutter speed up.

I still need to get used to the set up and I also need to jerry build another holder for the lenses in front of my case.
