I did Sipadan back in 98 when you could still stay on Sipadan. I hear now you stay on Mabul and ride the boat to Sipadan. It was a species rich place to dive. More than any other spot I've been. The vis can be good or not so good though. I'd still rank it as one of the 3 best spots I've ever been.

Hi,

As you are no doubt aware, there are no resorts now on Sipadan Island. You can dive there from Mabul, also from Kapalai and Mataking. There are some very nice resorts on these islands offering daily dives in Sipadan and also closer to the resorts.

This information may help.

Hi, A great way to dive the best dive sites within that area is by taking a dive safari conducted at the best dive sites of other islands within the area, most notably at Mabul, Kapalai, Roach Reef, Yoshie Reef, Boheyan, Mataking, Sipadan
and Mantabuan. For further information you can check this out:Bay Islands Safari

I loved Mabul , stayed at Borneo divers and also at Smart Divers , I like SmartDivers better...little nicer place and didnt have to carry my gear back and forth to the boat....the diving was fantastic !!

Go. Sipadan is not an opportunity to let pass by.

I think Mabul has some good dive spots, although I did only night dives there, which were excellent due to all the different critters that came out to play.

Although it was great being able to stay on Sipadan with the wall right in front of the dive shop, the boats from Mabul are quick, if the marine environment improves the restrictions should only make a good thing better. Watch out for those pesky turtles...

Just came back from the Kapalai resort near Sipadan. It is built on stilts on top of a reef (no island) a 15 minute boat trip from Sipadan. The resort was quite magical and the diving fantastic. My only other experience was the Red Sea where I did a couple of hundred dives and the level of wildlife there was nothing to compare with. We could see dozens of turtles, reef sharks, schools of barracudas and jacks on every single dive. If there don't miss the early morning dives.

If you don't already have a camera, Sipadan and Mabul are great excuses to buy one. Excellent diving.

See my comments and others following the link below. Sipadan is great. I stayed at Kapalai. A gorgeous place, no beach to speak of, but only stilts on a reef. Look out of your spacious accommodation to unspoilt views of blue tranquility....A beautiful spot.
