Anyone know anything about the incident at Dutch on the student side on Sat morning? Unresponsive diver was brought up from the platforms in the morning. Lot of rescue activity followed by an ambulance. No news in papers which is a good sign.

I was just talking to my instructor about this tonight. We were there Saturday, based right in the middle of the student side, but evidenly missed the whole thing. We must have been down on our Deep dive at the south end.

Were you there? If not, where did you hear about it.

Hearsay from several witnesses:

Apparently a young OW student (about 18), dropped his mask at the platform. He bent down to pick it and slipped. No more than 4 feet of water. He was under for a short while before anyone noticed. He was dragged up and hauled ashore - he was unresponsive - some claim that he was foaming at mouth. EMT rescuscitated him and he was taken to hospital.

Some of those platforms have one of the slickest surfaces that I have ever experienced. Algae with slick paint. Even the rough-surfaced concrete ramps are slick with algae in places.

Depending on where you are, one slip and you are off the platform in some pretty deep water.

Hope he is OK!

Note to self (and everyone): Inflate BC before walking down. Reg in mouth walking out ...
