I was just reading some of the posts on the board and was wondering what sort of weekend diving set up most people do. It seems like a lot of people do day dives and go straight home, but what I want to know is what do you do and where do you stay if you go away for a week or a weekend.
When we go on our standard dive trip it is usually to Morten Island about 3/4 of an hour of the coast of Brisbane. It's a national park that has a brissy/style resort and has lots of camping ground.
We have to take everything water/firewood /camping gear the lot. It all goes over in the boat with us. We can get air fills at the resort and get a swim in the freshwater pool. The camp ground has drop dunnies and cold showers and that's about all , but that's what we like about it, just the basic's.
At night if we are not doing a night dive on the exposed wrecks 50 mtrs of the beach we would sit around the camp fire having a cold beer or two or three or four and see who can tell the most embrassing stories about each other. Most of us have been mates since school so we've got a few good one's.
I know that we are lucky to be so close to great ding all year round , so does this sound like what you do, if not what are your trips like?

We do several types of weekend trips. Some weekends, we drive 3-4 hours to Lake Travis, a very large man-made lake, and camp. Like you we have to take everything with us. The scuba park where we go has air fills, basic showers, and port-a-cans (drop dunnie?)

Other times we'll drive 8-10 hours to Florida's panhandle to dive nice saltwater in Panama City. There we use a dive operator for 2-3 dives for 2 days, and stay in cheap hotels.

But most common is the weekends spent at the local freshwater lake. It's just less than an hour from our house, 50ft deep and full of fish. Being so close to home, we don't camp but all winter long we have buily bonfires to warm up after diving and like you say, there's nothing like sitting around the campfire with friends with a mug of hot chocolate to make a great weekend.
