I made the mistake of diving without a buddy and suffered the consequences. ...

I usually dive with my son, the product of my “Grow Your Own Dive Buddy” program. In July we planned on a local (Southern California) dive. Two days before the dive, my son was given the opportunity to sail in a prestigious sailboat race. He was concerned about leaving me without a dive buddy, but ultimately decided to do the race.

After carefully considering the matter, I decided that since it was a simple, shallow, familiar dive, I’d do it without him. While I was off diving, my son broke his leg. He spent the rest of the summer with his leg in a cast.

Had my buddy and I been diving together, this never would have happened.
