Immeasurable Sea
Cupped in my gathering hands,
Some small part of the glittering sea swirls,
Cherished by my eyes, warmed by my blood,
Lifted away from the earth against gravitys will.
Refreshed and stilled by the cool life within,
Joyous discovery washes over me.
Even the smallest and gentlest element enchants:
Foaming clarity, peat scented,
Light arcs tremble across my palms,
Lustrous bubbles cling to my skin,
Golden motes settle into my lifeline.
Can I ever hold it in place?
Try as I might, this little sea vanishes irresistibly,
Rejoining its deeper self,
Barely missed but celebrated home,
Submerging laughingly.
What did I hold? What did I sense?
A thousand times could I caress this sea
And know as little as when my time began.
The deep scent of weighted darkness clings for moments,
Taking me where I will never go.
I may touch the surface and dream of depths,
Hold what my gathering hands can enfold,
And never lessen the immeasurable wonder of this glittering sea.
