Hi, I am thinking about starting scuba diving in the near future. Where/what shops/websites does everyone buy the equipment from?
Many thanks :)

Being in the UK, you have access to Apeks and a shop in the Nederlands for good prices.....If you're interested in HOG gear which ships Int'l, try Divegearexpress.com [also Diverite.com ].....You can also try Deepseasupply.com in California.......There are several board members from the UK who will probably be able to direct you to more sites.......

Welcome to our passion! I would recommend if you are just getting started, use the rental gear from your LDS (if it's a decent shop) until you really decide you want to dive. That way if you try it and decide you don't really like it, or perhaps discover some kind of medical issue that will keep you from being able to dive, you aren't stuck trying to sell a lot of gear that you will never make your money back on. Most places will require you to have a mask and snorkel, but will rent you the rest. Just my 2 cents.

Hello, and welcome to this board. If you are not too far from Birmingham, there is a dive show there next week end (oct 27-28) at the NEC. More info here:
Dive Shows | Diver Group | Get set for DIVE 2012
Most of the gear manufacturers are there.
Now that being said, renting first and waiting at least until you are certified before investing in your gear is very good advice.

Hi and welcome!

I'm new, I've discovered my passion for life, and I haven't even started my training yet! Still trying to save up to get the equipment. From posts here and a site called scuba-diving-smiles.com I have concluded that some equipment should be purchased in person. I like the idea of renting first, tho. If you like it, and you go in person to get your own equipment, you can be sure of the fit, and get advice from the dive shop pro.

I also have learned a lot from the PADI website, not sure of exact address, but do a web search for PADI and you should be able to find it.

Good luck and enjoy!!
:D
