I have a Canon EOS 10D. Which housing do you recommend: Sea & Sea (already available) or Ikelite (available in July 2004.)

I have read somewhere that (although less expensive) Ikelite housing is more realiable, costs less for insurance and is more popular in Australia. Is there any truth to that?

For a complete setup (Housing, Ports for Canon 100mm USM marco lens, Strobe with arms and sync cord), Ikelite is about $2000 while Sea&Sea is about $3200.

I have also read somewhere that Ikelite DS-125 strobe with TTL slave sensor is inferere to Sea & Sea YS90Auto. Is that true?

I think I like Ikelite for being clear so I can test and see the leak in a fresh water bucket before dive and the fact that I can see the O-ring.

I'm waiting for Ikelite to come out in July. I hope I'm not making a mistake here.

Does anyone have good or bad experiences with Ikelite or Sea & Sea? If you have experience with both, which is your peference and why? Please feel free to comment.

Thanks.

I have an older Sea and Sea D60 housing and have had leakage problems. They are intermittent but I get nervous every time I dive. I partially flooded the housing and killed my D60 and 100mm macro lens. I upgraded to the 10D which will work in a Sea and Sea (not all functions but the important ones) and am going with the Ikelite 10D housing when it becomes available (I live about 150 miles from Indianopolis and Ikelites support is second to none) I like the idea of being able to see the O-rings seal and Ikelites well designed function buttons. They even have a new focus port for the 100mm that has gotten good reviews. You might want to go th the Wetpixel website for more info.
Cheers

;) Hi Nap-I'am completly ignorant of your camera, because I only use Sony. However I've been using Ikelite products for years, and have NEVER experienced problem one, and I'am very hard on my equipment! No I don't work for, or represent the company in any way, I'am just a very satisfied user of what I believe to be, the best unit for my purposes. Have fun, and on that first really great shot----don't forget to inhale once in awhile:)

My recommendation would be to check out the Inon X2 (or something like that). This thing is meant to have a very very snug fit with the 10D inside. Inon appear to be a very inovative company and it has several features the other two do not have. Considering Inon product pricing strategy I believe this housing will be well priced and should be avaliable now or within the next month or so.

One feature is that it has a magnetic focus ring on the port for the EF Canon 100/2.8 USM macro lens. This makes manual focus work just like on land with the lens. Also you can attach the +3 macro lens from the Inon Ring flash to this port for some extra 'closeness'.

So I would go for the Ikelite over the sea & sea because of the price and Ikes service, but definatly check out this new Inon housing.

Thanks for everyone for your inputs. It seems like Ikelite is a way to go for me. However, I'll definitely check INON X2 out. I love the idea of being able work with manual focus just like on land (instead of using a focus ring kit) espeically I am a macro freak.

Any thought of Strobe?

Thanks.

The Inon housing is specially made to take Inon Strobes. Suggest one Inon Z220 and one Z220S or D180.

I've also heard lots of good things about Ikelight DS125's for digital cameras. Others I'm sure will have a few more suggestions.
