I have an Ikelite housing for my Canon A640. After use I found that the way the shutter actuator is set up is beginning to force down the zoom ring around the shutter.

The spring is looped around the end of the actuator in such a way that it hits the zoom ring as the shutter is depressed. I have modified the actuator (see attachment). Holding the clipped off end with a 4-40 pan head screw works just fine.

Does anybody have a solution for the lack of self-centering of Ikelite's zoom actuator? That pisses me off when I'm trying to get a shot and the camera stops working because that lever has moved. That to me is damned poor engineering of Ikelite's case.

After observations of such workmanship I'd get the Canon case if I could find a way to put auxiliary lenses on the port.

Thats odd... because the Canon housing does not have this problem and it cost about half the price, I would give Ikelite a call, keep in mind that the Ikelite housing is a "generic" or one size fits many cameras. Just the holes and mounting plates are different but use the same box.

The Canon housing is custom molded for a certain model camera so the holes and controls line up perfectly. With the Ikelite housing's extra room, between the housing and camera, the outside controls have to be pretty long compared with the Canon housing, so there are many adjustments to get everything lined up correctly.

I expected to have a generic fitment and was strongly considering the Canon case. That said, I was also expecting better operation from the Ikelite case than what I found.

But, Canon also screwed the pooch. Unlike some of their other cases, the lens port on the WP DC-8 is rectangular and so does not support fitting close-up or other lenses. Any solution for that?
