Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone is using this combo w/ the extra TTL plug that Ikelite has added into the later version of their c5050 housing.

The port they provide is an ikelite port right?

But apparently, one can buy a sync cord for Ikelite 5pin <> Nikonos 5pin?!? Can anyone confirm this? ...& more important, give me some experience w/ it's TTL capabilities & compatibility? Also perhaps some advice on how well it connects to the c5050 camera....& how well it actually works....there's so much hype about TTL from the manufacturers but so much gripe from the users it seems.....

Or if you have any other suggestions for strobe to take advantage of the ikelite TTL port on the housing.

I'm pretty partial on the INON strobes though....mainly coz of hte size & decent power output. Plus the AA batteries is a plus for me as I find w/ the c5050, just less hassle since it means a battery is a battery is a battery!! Plus, if i'm somewhere where I can't get any electricity - could be likely w/ me, then at least I still have my corner store....

If the question you're asking is whether Ike's Olympus TTL conversion circuitary will work in TTL with Inon Z220 strobes then the answer is no. It'll only work in TTL with Ike strobes DS-50/DS-125.

Re: Ike housing bulkhead to Sea and Sea (and Inon) strobe sync cord, yes such a sync cord exists. The part# is 4118.1 (single) and 4118.2 (dual). This will allow manual sync only.

The Ikelite catalog has a sync cord that goes from a Nikonos strobe to their housing. I'm hoping that it will connect to their 5060 housing. Will this only give manual sync??? Can anyone tell me? I'm going to sell my PT20 and get the Ikelite housing if I can then use my Nikonos strobe.
Tell Me !!!!! I need some info!

Reyer,

Firstly, both Nikon & INON strobes us the same Nikon 5pin sync cord....I believe....

So if I use this Ike 5pin to Nikon 5pin synce cord, does that mean that the c5050 camera flash will not fire? & all the strobe action is happening externally at the other end of the sync cord?

If so, the only real advantage to this setup over an optical fiber strobe trigger is that the on-camera flash doesn't go off at all...correct?

Any ideas if this will activate the Aiming light & laser too on the z220?

Curiously, what setting would I set the c5050? External only?

Thanks Reyer....

Yes, you will be able to trigger your strobe without using your internal flash at all. To engage the aiming light and laser on the Inon strobe, you would need to have all 5 pins connected. I can't tell from looking at my old Ikelite housing if all the pincs are wired but I don't think so. I would think that it won't work but may be someone can verify. I loaned my housing to a friend right now so I can't check it.

Sorry I missed following up on this thread:

Ikelite sells sync cords that'll connect an Ikelite housing to Nikonos SB strobes: #4115.31 and #4115.32. See http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/sb105win.html

I believe the sync connectors that connect to a Nikonos SB strobe are different to that of the Sea and Sea ones. The Inon strobe (Z220/Z220S) uses the same connectors as the Sea and Sea strobe. See this for different connectors: http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/info/sync_con.html

As SSRA30 said, that is correct.

Correct. Saves your camera's batteries, no fiddle-f@rting with optical cables and flash blocks.

This is what Matthias posted a while back: http://www.digitaldiver.net/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=7339. The deleted attachement in that post is attached below.

Because the strobes are non-Olympus TTL compatible strobes and all the pins on the camera's hotshoe won't be connected up it shouldn't matter if you use INT+EXT, EXTERNAL ONLY or SLAVE (I could be wrong on this). What you will need to do is turn the camera's flash off (accessed by pressing the :lightning button on the left of the camera) if you don't want it to fire along with the external strobe. From my experience, I've only been able to get a non-Olympus compatible flash to fire in A and M shooting modes only.

Reyer...yu're fantastic.....Thanks alot for your responses (all of them...)...
