anybody tried one of these yet?

thinking it would make a good cheap starter camera, kind of a toss-in-the-bag-just-in-case

'upgraded' to the Auto35.

The little auto-wind camera is pretty basic, but takes acceptable snap-shot quality photos. Nothing comparable to a SLR camera, but if you flood it, the camera can be replaced for under $60. I purchased the whole system online for under $400.

While other photogs are meticulously greasing o-rings and doing other time-consuming maintenance, I just toss in film and batteries and I'm set. Pretty hassle-free photography.

I've posted some of my photos taken with this camera if you want to see the quality of images that are obtainable.

If you end up buying one, PM me for a valuable tip on how to aim the camera. You can also get some useful info by doing a Google search on 'Dave Read' and following his advice for Ikelite camera systems.

There are a couple of more Auto 35 users on the board, including me. I think the whole setup (camera, case, macro, and strobe) can be had for around $300. Photos I have taken can be seen on my website below. Be aware, it is easy to shoot 36 exposures and only get 3 you really like.

Dave has an excellent website...Dave Read photo instruction

His instructional style makes the technical aspects of photography very easy to understand. Everyone should read this. His daily SPUD is a great way to start your day!
