Just picked up the housing for my C5060 and was playing around with it a little bit and something occured to me. :idea3:

Might be a dumb question but .......

Is there some sort of special strap you can get for it so if you need to use two hands you can let go of it and not lose it. I looked at the Ikelite site but I didn't see anything. How do you secure it if you have to let go of it, to your BCD or around your wrist? Or do you just hold on to it, which seems kind of silly to me! :06:

Thanks

Thanks

I attach the rig to a d-ring on my harness using this lanyard. I re-inforce the ends of the coil with some cave line just in case the coil breaks free.

As I mentioned to you in my PM, this is how the rig looks with the lanyard in the first pic. The second pic shows where the split ring goes over the ball joint connection to the left strobe arm. Hope this clears things up a bit.

GREAT... Thanks!

Nice looking rig you have there.

Nice rig as diveborg pointed out..
Is that setup a DIY or did you get that somewhere, also what the yellow thing on the top.. heheh.. looks like a Radar Dome... to track the big ones...
Just wondering.. and the strobes are using Optic and not hard wired into the camera right?? I thought they usually have a black velco over the flash diffuser...

thanx...

For what it's worth, I tried the stretch coil lanyard set-up on my Ikelite c5050 housing, and I found that it was too cumbersome for me. When I dive, I want the camera close to my center of action (remember the old "golden triangle" concept?), and I found that if I let go of the camera with the center connect on the lanyard released and the coil allowed to stretch, that the whole thing would gravitate around to my back and knock on my tank. The coil would just stretch too far. And if I kept the center connect together, I had this big coil hanging around in my face and getting in the way. I came up with a different solution which fits me better. I had a couple of those plain nylon wrist lanyards that are used to secure a dive light to your hand (not the kind with the rubber padding around the wrist area), and I simply secured one around the base of the tray next to the grip handle. I then took a Master Clip and fastened it to the other end of the line. This rig allows me to instantly attach and remove the set-up from a D ring on my upper vest, and the amount of leeway it gives me is perfect for holding and positioning the camera. And if I let go of it, the camera stays pretty close to my reach almost all the time. I further refined this arrangement by putting a Uni-Quik clip set between the Master Clip and the lanyard, so I could easily break the camera off and reattach (without fumbling around on my vest for the main clip) if I needed to position the camera in some strange manner. All this gear is at LeisurePro if you can't find it locally. This seems to work better for me, IMHO. ;)

Thanks Woodman but I just got back from my trip last week and used Warren L's idea and it worked great. You say it went around you and knocked on your tank, I'm guessing that your rig would float when you let it go. Mine sinks, it never got in my way when the buckle was clipped shut and it dangled nicely by the coily cord when I let go of the camera, which I only did if I was in shallow enough water to retrieve it if the coily cord happened to let go.
