Palau 2005

Chad

Great pics Dr. Chad,

I'm still Jealous. How bout a trip report?? PM me if you'd rather, Dr. Ken :42:

Wow those are some pics.... wish we had that kind of color out here.. ;)

where exactly is Palau?

Stryker: Palau is out in the South Pacific. I'm in Guam and Palau is about a one and a half hour trip...If I remember right! If you ever get a chance I would put it pretty near the top of my list...In fact as far as diving, I can't think of a better place:-)

Yakivet: The trip was a mix of pleasure and pleasure. We have a few friends there that we hadn't seen in a while, so we decided to visit AND do a little diving. We dove with Sam's Tours, who seamed to be a great group of guys and gals. I don't think I saw any boats with more than 8 or so divers on them. Its about a half hour to forty five minute cruise to the dive sites. The whole time you cruising between those amazing rock islands to it isn't to arduous. If you want, you can stop off a jelly fish lake...which is a experience unto is own. As far as the actual diving. The walls were incredible! We dove Big Drop Off, Tutle Cove & Blue Corner for walls, and they didn't disapoint!! We saw our Manta which gave me some great photos in German Channel, along with more sharks, fish and a Titan Trigger breading ground! At Blue Corner we used Reef Hooks because of the Crazy current and that was amazing!!!! Fish all around you! I practically got enveloped by a school of Baracuda (picture to come from a friend), that was after a huge Nepolian Wrasse came right up to me, which was after sharks kept cruising around us, which was after...simply put amazing. All in All the vis was great, Weather was great (A little hazy from a Volcano in Saipan the first 2 days.) and we had a great time with friends!!! I couldn't imagine a diver not enjoying himself!! If you can, put Palau on your to do list, the place is a jewel in the Pacific!

First of all, there is some awesome pics in your colection! Second, what an amazing array of species you saw! You're one lucky pup!

Chad,

Wonderful gallery!

Want to remind us (for those like me who are attention-span-challenged) your basic settings? No external strobe, as I recall? Any use of Adobe Photoshop or equivalent?

HDtran: Thanks for checking out the gallery:) My basic settings (When I'm not trying to mess things up with full manual) are the followin:

I use the "Custom 1 & 2" options for my underwater settings:
C1: Av priority, F8, Cloudy & Flash, Spot focus.
C2: P priority, Cloudy, Flash or no flash (I just changed to using P) I like it because it will take decent pictures without the flash. For example, my Manta Ray shots had a lot of sediment in the water. If I had used the flash...Marine Snow here we come!! I use ACDSee to edit my shots. It's not a Photoshop quality editing program, but it does what I need. Anyway, thanks again & have fun in Cabo!!!!

Very nice pictures Chad, thanks for sharing.

beautifull pics! I have to ask though... the picture of the dendronepthia, "soft pink coral" you took that? It looks almost identical to a photo in an aquarium coral book I have.
