If you broke a low presure hose how many minute's do you have before you empty a 100cf tank? The reason im asking is that my second stange hose broke off of my reg today, while setting up my gear before a dive. The hose broke off leaving the threads in the reg. If the hose broke of at say 70' with a single 100cf tank how fast would it empty?

What king of Regulator was it. I was diving a wreck this summer and my second sage oct, wich was a Scuba Pro R190 got caught on a piece of the wreck. The current was pretty strong and it ripped the hose right off of the regulator. I was diving doubles so i shut down the manifold. I didnt time it but that tank was empty fast

The type of regulator shouldn't have an effect. AFAIK, there isn't much of a pressure difference on the second stages comming off the first stages, but I could be wrong.

I think Curt Bowen did a study on just this thing. I can't remember if he posted his results here or on The Deco Stop.

The reason i asked what kind of regulator it was, i strongly feel that their was some kind of a defect in the hose.

That's interesting. That just happen to me the other day while setting up my gear and the fitting broke flush with the first stage leaving the threads in the reg. It was an inflator hose that was supplied with a Whites drysuit.
I have personally seen a set of 98cf doubles go from 1200 - 600 psi at depth in a matter of 24 seconds.

Very very fast. If broken completely off at 70 feet, I would venture that you would not have enough breathing gas to reach the surface with a normal (~30 feet per minute) ascent.

Seem to me that a broken LP hose would almost be the same as a freeflow that wouldn't quit. Would empty any tank very fast.

According to Curt Bowen/ADM testing, an 80 cf tank with a low pressure failer emptied at the surface in 83 seconds. At 99' the tank emptied around the same time within a second or two. At 231' the tank again emptied at the same rate, within a second or two.

Some pretty good technical scuba discussion over at The Decostop ;)
