When it comes to invertebrates other than molluscs and corals, identification aids are spotty at best. Along the north shore of the Dominican Republic, one of the most common invertebrates I see while snorkeling (other than yellow sea whips) is a soft-bodied polyp that looks like little mushrooms. Googling "mushroom hydroid" has been no help (maybe it isn't a hydroid?), and neither have any of the usual Caribbean reef websites. Does anyone know of any more in-depth identification materials, or perhaps a more appropriate search term?
