I am sure it is something basic but I can’t say I have ever seen anything quite like it and nothing in Reef Creature that I am confident of. I assume an anemone? Each one is relatively large, maybe 8 inches.

Seen in Bonaire.

Maybe a Corallimorph, an umbrella or forked tentacle? Also called a mushroom coral.

I think you are right. This is a new one for me. I can’t find a lot about it. I wonder how common they were in Bonaire before SCTLD.

“Corallimorpharians occur in a wide range of marine habitats, and can be associated with phase shifts in coral reef ecosystems that result in a change from a hard-coral dominated reef to a soft-coral dominated one. ”

Maybe a Cup Corallimorph.

I love corallimorphs, and this sure looks similar, but I’m not sure. There’s a facebook group you could post it to: ID Please (Marine Creature Identification). Maybe someone there will know for certain?

EDIT: I just found a picture on wildsingapore that names it as a beaded corallimorph (Discosoma nummiforme). If it’s not the same it’s very, very similar.

Very similar but the info there says 2 to 4 cm. These were much larger.

Thanks for the FB group. I have posted and I assume it’s waiting for approval.
