Hi All,

I am sure there must have been an endless amount of people asking the same before me. I have really been trying to search around online but still cannot figure it out.

I've gotten my hands on a used 12.2L Steel Luxfer cylinder that I don't know anything about.
What I would like to know is:
- Age of the cylinder - (07/00?)
- What exactly does the "14MP05" mean? I assume this might refer to previous visual inspection done?

Full marking:
M25 X 2-ISO

BS 5045/3/C/S CP 23000KPa 07/00 SER NO.P2986M/LUXUK A4392
TP 34800 KPa CAPACITY 12.2L TARE 16.7 KG 14MP05

What may I want to know about this type of cylinder, and what can I expect from it in the future/?

Thank you very much for your help
Simon

Thank you! That was very helpful.
Would you be concerned about using a 16 year old cylinder as long as it passes all tests?

It is not a steel cylinder but an aluminum cylinder. BS 5045/3/C/S is for AL6061 cylinders. The born date is indeed 07/00. You are correct about the 14MP05 being a test date.

Is the 14MP05 actually stamped on the cylinder? Is that part of the original numbers of added later? I've not heard of any new numbers being stamped besides the hydro date except for the added requirements for some questionable aluminum cylinders. I have an aluminum 80 from the 80s that requires additional testing when it gets hydro tested but I forgot what it says.

It is stamped on the cylinder, but it looks like it has been added recently and not from the factory. Hence why I thought it looks like a test date.

why dont you post some pictures

I should add, the cylinder also has a sticker on it saying last visual test was done 05 - 2014.

14MP05 is the hydro stamp. just looks weird to americans because they are expecting [month][test station code][year] whereas yours is [year][test station code][month]
