It could be worse. Right now I have my generator running the sump pump, my computer, and a small heater next to my desk. The rest of the house is pretty cold. We had power for a few hours last night, then it went out again.

Outside it's warming up, it's 39f now and the wind is picking up.
All that ice is blowing off of what's left of the trees and everything else!

I've been told,(I tried not to hear) that we are under a state of emergency and there should be no unecesary travel :( . (isn't dive related travel considered necesary? )I was supposed to be going to the diveshop and the pool today ;-0. The family would have been getting their new wetsuits for our Florida trip and practicing some skills for their DM certs. I would have been checking my weighting with my aluminum BP and a single tank, and then practicing with doubles. I tried them last week for the first time. I'm looking forward to setting up my own

Hopefully we'll get power soon, and hopefully they'll lift the state of emergency, I'm supposed to be at the shop tomoro for my ITC.

I hope you others in Western New York are doing okay.

...................do you think the Iraq's did it?
They evidently did it in Bagdad. And you thought it was an ice storm!
Don't feel bad, where we live we were lucky because the lake has kept us a tad warmer than Grand Rapids 30 miles west of me, 450,000 without power because of ice on lines today
My next dive trip is 76 days away and counting! ,way, way too far away

I wonder how many hours are left?
Caymaniac:rolleyes:

Back in '77 we got hit by a monster ice storm. We were out of power for ten days. I was a teenager at the time.( I wouldn't be certifed for a whole another year) I remember the best thing about it was getting out of school. After a few days as our basement was slowly filling, my father bought a generator. He happened to be a ham radio operator and the water was encroching on his ham shack. So we took turns taking care of the generator which needed to be fueled every four hours or so. Well at least we had heat and could fush a toilet. The little things are really important.
Yup, ice storms suck. If I'm never involved with another thats okay with me. Now my train layout is in that same basement. That would REALLY be a heart breaker if that sucker got flooded out.

Sunday I got back form a dive trip in Cozumel. I was hopeing that it was white sand on my truck this morning but it was snow.

I love Vermont!!!

what exactly is an ice storm? Is it like snow? Help! ( I live in Washington, what can you expect?):)

Kayla:)

An ice storm is a frozen rain storm. But instead of going down the drains it knocks down trees on power lines. Presents unexpected slick roads. And makes everyone miserable because they were suppose to rake their lawn today and put down grass seed. Nothing personal.;-0

We just thawed out a few weeks ago. I was without power for almost a week.

I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

:) :)

No, I don't think it was the Iraqi's!

Kayla,
Ice storms happen when there is warmer air above and it's raining, and colder air below. the rain freezes on everything!! I saw 3/4' of ice on a lot of things. When the trees get all that ice they start breaking from the weight. They break Power lines and cables (and other stuff) when they come down. :( everything is a mess!

Thanks to All who replied!! :)

I was unaware of the storm until driving down the NE extension of the PA turnpike Sat afternoon & saw a convoy of trucks from PSEG (Public Service Electric & Gas), Conectiv & PECO (Phila Elec Co). Immediately knew there was an ice storm up north. Worst part of life around here - ice storms & the black ice. I'll take the snow over ice any day. Forecast calling for snow, sleet, freezing rain today...
