Hello everyone,
My family and I will going on a cruise in June of this year to the Carribean. Its 7 days and we are so excited, we have not vacationed together in 3 years. My wife and daughter (15 y/o) are not divers, but my wife enjoys snorkling.
The ports we will be in for the day are: Cahrlotte amalie, St. Thomas Philipsburg, St. Maarten St. johns, Antigua Castries, St. lucia bridgetown, barbados

Where I need your input is, if you could only afford to dive just two or three of these places (the remaining I plan to snorkle with wife and daughter) which would you choose...... and why?

Thanks group!

Top of my list would be St. Lucia, followed by St. Thomas. Wouldn't bother with teh dive in St. Maarten (the snorkeling isn't necessarily even good there), Antigua (a bit better) and Barbados (definitely snorkel). In Antigua, for a family activity, consider a stingray snorkel in the open water (not at the dolphin experience). Barbados has some good snorkeling, but try to include a turtle stop in what you choose. St. Maarten is a great place for your two "girls" to go shopping, or beach it, though with your youngish daughter, you may want to stay on the Dutch side beaches (the French side are frequently topless and some, like Orient Beach, have clothing optional areas).

thank you for your advice! Its just so overwhelming........and exciting too. I want to do it all, but my wallet saids otherwise. Thank you once again, I will follow your advice.

Don't feel badly that you're skipping diving in a couple islands. I'm a diveaholic, and I don't dive St. Maarten or Antigua. Other things to do there which are much more rewarding to me. And Barbados snorkeling or topside are terrific. There are good dives there, but you'll have two excellent opportunities on St. Thomas and St. Lucia.

If you have any other questions, diving or cruising, don't hesitate to ask.

When in Barbados probably the best snorkeling would be Folkstone. Any cab can get you there. Barbados is one of my favorite islands. If you want to get a cab driver for a day...I will be glad to make a recommendation. We use the same guy all the time we go there. The only glitch is...I am in Germany right now but will be back in the states on 8 March so there is plenty of time to get you the number.

If you are there on a Friday or Sat night.....go to Oistins and do the fish fry and dance. Get there about 7:30 pm.

There is a beach in St. John's that the locals call Waterlemon Cay. Its. a ways away off the road but worth it to snorkel. If you hit it on a week day it was not crowded when we were there.
