xtx40 is a great reg. only thing it lacks is 2 Hp ports and adjustment knob. u may want to go for the fst first stage if you require 2 hp port (for a tranmistter). Apeks service is also 2 yrs vs the mares yearly service. the WOB of the xtx40 i think is 0.75 joules which is very good.

Apeks. They are simply awesome regs.

The XTX 50 with DS4 is a common tech setup, so if you look you should be able to find a deal. They also have good re-sale. The adjustment knob on the XTX 50 is worth it.

If you want the FSR first stage, it probably makes more sense to look at the XTX200, but it's a pretty big bump to pay for a transmitter port that may never use.

Both are good regulators, but I'd go with the Apeks.

If you're sure you're going to get into it, I'd move up to an Apeks XTX 50. I switched about 10 years ago from Poseidon and do a lot of deep diving.

I use an XTX 200 and it has delivered everything I've needed. They just don't seem to freeze in cold water (the water temperature in the North Atlantic at this time of year varies from 30 to 34 degrees F) add to this depth and work, well it's just a very dependable regulator.

I dive in Germany and the best brand is Apeks or Mares but only the MR 22 with the Abyss
i would only your opinion listen!
the world from diving in Germany and US are to diverge:wink:
thanks ever for the answers

I have the Mares - it is very good. + mares customer service is excellent.

very true dark star, if u ain't using a transmitter port, go for the ds4. there isn't a turret which will stop your hoses moving about. you should also consider the xtx50 as that will have the adjustment knob for changing your inhalation cracking effort. www. subprof .com is a cheap site to purchase if u are in germany/eu.

I don't know about the Apeks.

My wife has an Abyss. It breathes beautifully. But it has non standard hose ports. That puts it on my 'no go' list (I wish I checked that at the time we bought it).
