Hi all,

I've done a search on the topic and have waded through a lot of the answers, but was hoping to get some updated information. I'm looking for a BC for my mom, who is a warm-water, couple-times-a-year-dive-trip diver (so is not interested in spending megabucks on a BC). She wants to own her BC so that she can be familiar with all of its workings and not have to readjust to new BCs every trip. She'd also prefer one with integrated weights and is looking more at a jacket-style. I have a Mares Dragonfly and love it; her LDS recommended the Scubapro Glide or Glide Plus to her. Anyone have any experience with the Scubapro ones or any other options?
Thanks in advance for your replies and help!

Why don't you and your mom go for a day trip and try on a few in the price range that is right for you. We can give you lots of answers but when it comes right down too it, what may be right for me, may not feel comfortable for your mother. We all have different body structures.

Thanks for your responses.

Cobaltbabe, I appreciate that everyone's body shape is different -- I was just curious if anyone had any other opinions on "I have BCD X and love it because of Y." I got the dragonfly largely because someone DID tell me, "I have the Dragonfly and love it because of a, b, and c," and it was a BC I hadn't been familiar with before then. I might not have gone out of my way to try it if she hadn't given me the heads up. Since it's been a couple years since I got my BC (and therefore not shopping for a new one), I was wondering if anyone had any other recent recommendations. That's all.

Unfortunately, I live in Virginia and mom is in New England, so going out for a day together and trying things out is not really an option!

Thanks again.

One of my friends just got her new Libra bc. She did have the Eva but didn't love it. She now loves her Libra because a) it has less "stuff" in the front, b) it sits nicely against her frame and doesn't bunch or bulge anywhere, c) weight integrated, d) lighter than her old one and e) very comfortable on her back...says she doesn't even feel it.

I haven't used it yet, but will be trying it out in the next couple of weeks.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for or not...

That isn't what I meant to do. I am sure that you will find the right BC for your mom. Happy shopping.

Sorry if I sounded peeved -- I wasn't! That's the problem with the Internet; *I* know what I mean to sound like, but of course that doesn't necessarily come across! I was just trying to explain a little more of what I was trying to ask for. No hard feelings?

Alcina, thanks for your opinion -- I appreciate it! I'm not too familiar with the Libra, so I'll go check it out. Thanks.

Genesis Athena is a great one and it was rated Best choice and Best Buy by PADI and Sport Divers

I had one and I loved it. It was so comfortable to wear. I only changed because I want to get into diving doubles and purchased a backplate and wing.

BTW, my Diva is still for sale and I'm in New England too. If you want to take a look:

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and saw your post. I have used the Scubapro Classic Plus many times and found it very comfortable. The lift capacity is excellent. There isn't a lot of "stuff" on the front to make the BC to "busy" for your mom. As far as quality, Scubapro speaks for itself, they also have an excellent warranty on their products.
