So, new fish for me...in about 85 ft of water, off Destin Florida, came across a "bed" of these guys..unlike jaw fish, they hang about 8" above the sand until you get close and then dive into their hole.

i believe that's a blue goby

they tend to hover just above their burrows

Thanks, somehow, I was expecting a blue goby to well, be blue. It obviously is a goby. seems they are hard to get close to, so cannot find any really good images on them..wonder if the blue is just from the water color?

Around the goby's, there were a large number of lizard fish...

Note: I had to go into stealth mode to get close.

the "blue" in the name comes from the neon edge on their heads

and nice second picture! good catch

I LOVE the stealth mode picture Puff...very nice. Hope you are doing well :D

Thanks, How am am doing is a direct relationship to how much diving I am doing, and have been doing a lot this year...which is very good.

The first one is Ptereleotris calliurus, the second looks to be a small Synodus foetens or Synodus intermedius, lizard fish can be tricky even in hand but those are my best guess.
Very nice pictures of both

Cool pics. The second one is amazing.
